I win two tickets to a show in a big theater. Invite a friend. As we arrive, he claims the place seats over eight thousand! Maybe it's part of a complex that can, but the theater, nearly a full house, can't be even eight hundred. Why'd he claim that?

While we're still peering in from the lobby, gunmen appear at other entrances, and trap the audience. I only see one gunman out here in the lobby to handle a hundred of us, and he's more interested in keeping the majority in the theater proper from escaping. I'm a short girl, so he can't see me. I quietly, slowly slink behind others over to the front doors, and slip out.

Do they have sentinels out here? Don't see any. On the front steps, I gawk at the Greek columns as if I'm new to its stone architecture, just arrived, not leaving. Saunter off, into the park across the street. Expect a bullet in the back... until I pass parked cars and some boulders--now I have a little cover if gunfire erupts. The hostage-hall is still in sight, but from afar it's clearly a government building now--Greek columns, a dome, a carved motto over the entrance.

Near me on the trail, a businessman is mad because he stepped in what he first thought was mud and now realizes is horse manure. Lots of it; it's a shared hiking/bridle path.

It matters, because the only thing that can stop the gunmen is mud. They don't much like water, but they won't melt from it like the Wicked Witch of the West. But mud works. Their power is all air and fire--earth and water together smothers their flame. Trouble is it must be true mud--plain water, plain dirt. No horseshit.

I look around for nice clean mud.

Am I as much of a coward as I thought? I seem to be planning to go back in and fight--once I'm properly armed.

Mud is magic.

Mudslinging works.

• Friend's numbers are clearly wrong: a friend who voted for Trump claimed leftists like me are violent and rightists aren't. I quoted three studies on political violence, one FBI, two independent; all found 3-400 political killings in the last decade. 85-95% were by rightists, 5-15% by leftists. He dismissed it all. Facts don't matter. The right is right, the left is wrong. End of story.
• Domed building seating several hundred: Congress? Suggests the 2021 assault on the Capitol.
• Occupied theater, hostages, slip out: the Moscow theater attack in 2002. The cops were reckless & got hostages killed. If my dream echoes history, I was wise to slip out.
• Putin's Russia: suggests the dream is about his great buddy Trump taking over. His inauguration's this week.
• I'm a woman on a bridle path: bridal path? Like, no successful love life for me until I solve this other little problem--a government that threatens me at gunpoint.
• Girl flees, but once she has the right tools, turns to fight: I'm reading Katherine Rundell's fantasy novel Impossible Creatures. Mal flees at first, but once she has weapons, she turns to fight.
• Mud has power: in Impossible Creatures, a wolf with ears of flame attacks; the only way to kill it is to smother its ear-flames in mud. Water alone won't work.
• The only thing that'll stop Trump is mud, not horseshit: real dirt on him. Clear violations of his constitutional oath, proof he's in Putin's pocket.
